“Music’s elastic tenor twisted and curled around Du Yun’s vocal lines with superhuman expressive power and fine nuance.”
- Cleveland Classical
Hailing from Grand Rapids, MI, tenor Nicholas Music is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a Master of Music in Voice Performance. Prior to attending UM, he received a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Music left a lasting impression during his studies, frequently featuring in mainstage operas, student recitals, and projects with resident composers. In 2018, he was noted for his “superhuman expressive power and fine nuance” by Cleveland Classical for his performance in Du Yun’s Angel’s Bone. That year, he was also named a Rubin Scholar during Marilyn Horne’s Oberlin residency. Some of Mr. Music’s operatic credits include the titular role of Bernstein’s Candide, Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Le Mari in Poulenc’s Les mamelles de Tirésias, Flute in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Oronte in Handel’s Alcina.
Since graduating, Nicholas has continued to be musically involved in southeastern Michigan.
